WACextravaganza

On this page, I’ll begin listing links that we love mainly because I don’t want to clutter up my blogroll with anything but my compatriots in this WAC blogosphere.

I think the number one spot must be taken by AUM’s own WAC program. The Director of WAC is Dr. Jenny Good who is also the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and an associate professor in the School of Education. She took our WAC program from a report on how we wished it could be to a reality with something like 50 faculty members being trained in writing intensive instruction in the last couple of years–a remarkable achievement (check out all the classes that are writing intensive). Dig around on our school’s WAC site, and be prepared to be impressed. The poem we’re writing for this class (and some of what we’re discovering) will be submitted to Dr. Good to include in her chronicle of the WAC attack at AUM. We might even get our poem published in the WACky Times.

Across the Disciplines an online journal on, yes, writing across the disciplines.

Web Writing Style Guide from Writing Spaces. A must read for anyone doing writing on the web in any discipline.

Kyle Stedman, an author for Writing Spaces, “Annoying Ways People Use Sources,” and now a member of the editorial staff… a great blog for several reasons: rhetorically savvy for job marketing, beautifully designed, includes a wide variety of thinking/writing, and portfolio materials.

Okay. If I ever was going to talk about style and voice, I’d link to this blog, a bit techie, but otherwise brilliant about writing: Gar’s Tips on Sucks-Less Writing. And irreverent. I laughed out loud.

I like Neil Gaiman. Who doesn’t?

I must say, I was not expecting to find Wil Wheaton actively blogging, nor did I know he was a writer, but I do appreciate the contention surrounding his stint on Star Trek: Next Generation. And I really liked him as Sheldon’s arch bowling rival on Big Bang Theory.

Okay, y’all probably know by now how much I love six-word memoirs, but six sentences–never thought about that. But I’m thinking now. I’m thinking response assignment at some point: a blog post with just six sentences. Hmmmm.

Of course, then it would be wrong not to include the six-word memoir site from Smith Magazine.

I love this Evil Editor blog, because, honestly, so many writers need a dose of evil reality.

I’m crushing on this writer, Cory Doctorow. I like his work, his copyleft stance, and the glasses… egads, to die for. Check out what one author can do to change the world: “The Author as Agent of Change.”

While several of the above are not technically WAC, they are about writing and writers and the writing process, so I give myself a pass to include links here.

The Oatmeal. Such beautiful work on semi-colons. And how to behave as an emailer in the interwebcybersphere. Not a spot for everyone, but some hilarious moments regarding Miss Spelling.

Writing, any writing, is WAC. Or, at least, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
